# Isovocal

> Isovocal is a Max for Live device for Ableton Live 12 Suite (macOS) that isolates the vocal of any warped Session clip using on-device AI stem separation (Demucs v4 hybrid transformer), then gives the performer one MIDI-mappable dial that morphs from instrumental, through the original untouched track, to the isolated vocal, in sync with Live's playback, with near zero CPU cost during a live set. ## What it does

- Isolates vocals / extracts acapellas from full songs inside Ableton Live, without bouncing stems or adding tracks. The clip stays a clip.
- One dial: 0% = instrumental only, 50% = the original track, 100% = isolated vocal. Every position in between is a usable blend. MIDI-mappable and automatable like any Live parameter.
- Separation runs offline, once per song (about 12x realtime on Apple Silicon GPU, 3x on Intel), and is cached. During a set, playback is a buffer read.
- Stays locked to Live's warped playback: warp markers, tempo, transpose, loop points, retriggers.
- If the user changes warp or tempo later, the device flags it and keeps playing the old render, in time, until they re-process (seconds, since separation is cached).

## How it compares

- Ableton Live 12's built-in stem separation bounces stems to new clips and tracks; Isovocal is a performance instrument that morphs live over the playing clip.
- DJ software (Serato Stems, djay Pro, VirtualDJ) offers realtime stems, but not inside Ableton Live and not as a MIDI-mappable device in a Live set.

## Requirements

- Ableton Live 12 Suite (Max for Live), macOS 13+, Apple Silicon or Intel. Windows is not supported yet.
- The device downloads its 200 MB engine once on first load, with consent. Processing and playback are fully offline afterwards.
